Chairman and Owner Tin Korver has written many blogs on this subject, named and shamed on the website and mentioned stories in the Twiice monthly newsletter. This however has done little in stopping companies from ripping off designs, and rather it seems that the more we look the more daring they become - copies in product design are simply everywhere!

The Ami Ami chair by Tokujin Yoshioka is a chair inspired by the play of warp and weft in woven fabric. Yoshioka wanted to use this stylistic symbol typical of his culture, weaving, and thus recreated it in the Ami Ami chair and table whose name in Japanese literally means "weave".
The simple squared off lines contrast the rich texture of the weaving reproduced on the inner and outer surfaces through a complex industrial process recreating the motif with a single mould. Available in colours: crystal, black and white!

A warning to all our clients who are thinking of purchasing perhaps a Victoria Ghost, a Supernatural, an Eames plastic or a Louis Ghost - if you do so, and you find yourself speaking to Italian Furniture Design Industries please beware and know that the items you are being told are originals, are of course - fakes!
Rather boldly they have named chairs by their original name, the Louis Ghost is the Louis Ghost, the Supernatural is just that, the Supernatural and so on - and with prices such as R477.00 for an Eames plastic or R1,099.00 for the Louis Ghost, it brings to mind the fact that they cannot be the original. If the prices were that, so easy it would be for all to have houses styled in purely design!

UP Series Turns Forty

There's a new kid on the block; someone else who has decided that the quick way to make a buck is by copying classic designs. They are M-Pire who openly admit - in an almost proud vain - to making high quality fakes (this they said when we phoned to enquire whether the Louis Ghost was the "real deal").
